IDEA EXPLORATION/DEVELOPMENT

1. Write a biography about yourself

INTRO

Tell us about yourself

My name is Cindy Clarissa Leslie and I’m from Indonesia. I’m half Chinese with 2 older siblings, which makes me the youngest child. I have a good number of cats back at home, and I came here to study design. My hobby would be drawing and listening to music. There are several aesthetics that I like, especially dark/grunge and y2k.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is your passion?

Passion is still an area that I need to explore, I’m unsure of what I truly want to do and enjoy. For now, I mostly focus on exploration with the time I have while I am still young.

PARAGRAPH 2

What’s motivate you to achieve your dream?

Most of my motivation comes from being successful, which I define as being able to live more than comfortably. I have a rather simple dream which can be achieved, seeing myself with a bright future continues to motivate me. This is especially desirable if I can achieve it by doing something I personally love.

SUMMARY

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

Being myself and be able to express it, doing something that I am passionate about. Personal freedom.

2. Write a statement about your work

INTRO

Tell us about your work

My work will be around me and the journey of finding my own self as time goes by. I want to be able to have a certain aesthetic that is able to represent myself and my identity well. The poster will be styled like a journal, as if I’m rewriting my own path

PARAGRAPH 1

What is the concept behind it?

The poster be revolving around the celebration of my birthday, as to show the concept of self development and growth. Back then, I struggled with my personal image, where I would rather ignore myself and how I wanted to express myself. Over time, I spent more time on focusing on myself, to understand my own likes and dislikes. So the stylistic choices for this poster plays a part in my self image, as it represents my aesthetic and interests.

PARAGRAPH 2

What is the message you want people to understand it?

This work will not only be a way for me to introduce myself visually to people, however be able to express myself in my own style and encourage others to be able to be more experimental and learn about themselves. I want to prioritize and promote self-embracement.

SUMMARY

What is your motto/ quote?

It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.

3. Study and gather all related information about your topic.

DESIGN DIRECTION

1. Sketch your mock up poster:

Figure 2.1 Sketch #1

My plan for this sketch was to create this journalistic, grunge style. The main focus will be how my portrait is a crumpled paper, adorned with my hands that are holding an eraser and pencil, as if creating the effect that I am writing or drawing. The question mark also shows the amount of self doubt I had, not knowing who I actually was as an individual or what I wanted.

Figure 2.2 Sketch #2

For this sketch, I wanted to focus more on the stylistic aspect instead of the meaning, I wanted more of a cyber y2k style. I didn't put much of a deeper meaning in this one and initially wanted to experiment with the style instead. I wanted to put in a part of my personality, where I am a big cat lover which was expressed by it popping out of my mind.

2. Create a digital poster based on your sketch

Figure 3.1 Main subject used

I chose to do sketch number one, since I not only prefer the stylistic choice but also the whole concept. I chose a picture that I took during my birthday, making it the main subject of the poster.

FINAL STILL AND ANIMATION

Figure 4.1 Final still poster

NAME:

Me. Today. Tomorrow.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I created this to express how I have managed to grow as an individual, especially in being control of my own life. I wanted to have this diary or journal-like aesthetic as an alternative way to signify how I was able to write myself, how my own future will be decided. I want to show people that even if you are still unsure with who you are at the moment, with effort and curiosity, you will eventually find the agency you sought.
