Final Task 3: Design

Figure 4.1 Final design 'Floral Manifesto.'

Rationale

Title: Floral Manifesto.

This self portrait revolves around the themes of identity and feminism, visualizing my personal experience through puberty. Adulting has not only help me connect further with womanhood, however  had also further forced societal and familial expectations on me, especially where I am expected to prioritize on building my own family instead of my own wants. My own figure serves as an emphasis supported with symmetrical balance, this helps personalize my design further that the message behind revolves around my life. Harmony can be found in the composition, not only from the floral elements but also on the colours that are predominantly shades of red or pink, a colour commonly associated with femininity. Movements can be found on the flowers growing on her face, creating a 'blooming' effect, signifying the burden of gender norms that had overtaken her. The repetition of the flowers itself, in the background behind her represents the environment that I have been raised in, where these 'flowers' acts as a symbolism of conservative expectations placed on women by traditional families, however, power and resistance can still be observed by the straightforward eye contact to the audiences, as if she is challenging these norms.

FEEDBACK

Task 3: Design

Week 6
Directed Feedbacks

Overall concept and design is already clear, work should be about the United Nations goal that have been picked. The sketch with eye contact with the audience is preferable to show 'power'.
