Project 1: Audio Dubbing


INSTRUCTIONS




Planning 

In this project, we were tasked to dub over a clip extracted from the movie 'Everything Everywhere All At Once.' We were first provided with the clip with no sound and script for the dialogues itself, all the sound effects, ambience and the character's dialogue will all depend on what we personally think would fit.

Before starting the audio dubbing, we were split onto groups to work on the sheets to separate each scenes. We then put in a detailed explanation for the actions in each scene and write down the possible sound effects that would be heard. In the end, after proper plannings we would search up different links of sound effects and ambiences.

After planning, I proceed to download every sound effects I've put the link in and started recording the dialogues in my own voice. In this, I referred to the scripts given, I had to voice three different characters which will be differenciated by manipulating the pitches.


Editing Process

At first I imported the sound effects into the project. Before inserting them into the sequences I would trim them first and add in exponential fade. I mainly focused the sound effects on A4 to A8. Next, using the same process I added in the ambience sound effects in the background on A8 to A10.

I started adding in the dialogues for each characters in layers A1 to A3. For each of the audios, I made sure to reduce the noises for each of them since I did not have a good microphone and recorded every dialogues on my phone. After, I added custom pitch shifter that was different for each characters: Waymond being -3, Evelyn being +3 and Office lady being +1.

REFLECTION

This project was definitely a first for me as I never really voice dubbed any videos or ever familiarized myself with working on Premiere Pro. By using the planning sheet, the editing process went by with flying colours as we already had all the timestamps and proper sound effects planned out, not only that, I was able to improve my communication and collaborative skills with my other groupmates in the planner. During this project, I was able to adapt better with the workspaces that Premiere Pro provide for audio editing, I was able to learn how to arrange these audios, edit effects on them, improve quality of sound recordings etc. Overall, the skills I have learned from using Premiere Pro in this project will definitely be handy for video editing in the future.
