REFLECTION

Experience

In my own experience, this module had overall been stressful since it was mostly report based on data analysis. I was quite alright with the essay portions however I struggled with data collection since it required a minimum of 80 participants. Though I had promoted my survey through my social media and group chats within 2 weeks, I was only able to reach the mark late after reaching the target. The lecturers however were really informative and helpful to the students, every week there would be direct feedback given to those that are ready to show what they have and there will be improvements made. The lecturers would also explain the MIB in detail before moving along a new task to make sure that the student’s tasks and submissions fit the criteria needed.

Other than that, the module was overall helpful to students with getting into their specialisations, helping us become more well informed with design. Not only that, the topics were also up to us which allowed us to research based on our interests, observing other student’s research topics was fun as there’s a wide range of variety and they were all very interesting to me!

Observation

What I have observed throughout this module is how time consuming it is, time management is especially crucial in this module. There are specific timeframes given for each of the tasks. With the lecturers’ doing rapid personal feedback, the students have to make sure that they are on track before showcasing what they currently have. This is something I personally also struggled in as I always tried my best to catch up with all the deadlines given for each task. This module requires a lot of time in and outside of class. Outside of time management, I’ve also observed how much analysis is required, good literacy and communicative skills are required.

Findings

What I have found is that there is a lot of different research done within the field of design. While getting into design myself, I didn’t expect myself to have to create a research report since I graduated highschool. With these researches and information, the data collected can be directly applied onto principles of design and ensure that the designs we create are functional and high quality. Within my own research, I myself have found the application of minimalism particularly in user interface. I learned a lot of different things such as the different aspects of usability that I have to keep in mind everytime I create a UI design. It was also interesting to read about the topic’s application within different branches of design such as interior, graphic etc. The field of design is wide and there will always be something new that can be studied.
