INSTRUCTIONS
Task 1:
Idea Development
Major project requires students in a specific specialization to group up with each other and create a product. After I have chosen my group, we immediately started brainstorming different ideas and problems we can tackle using a miro board.
Figure 1.1 Ideas collected in miro board
After a voting session of which ideas we were fond with, we decided on tackling the problem of overcrowding animal shelters, where we make an animal adoption app.
Developing Interview Questions and Conducting User Research
As we contemplate our interview questions, we came up with our different target users including:
- Potential Adopters
- Pet Owners
- Animal Shelter Workers
We divided our interview questions into 3 different sections: user demographic info, general app preferences and specific questions depending on target audience. Each members had to conduct one interview of each target audiences.
I interviewed some of those I'm familiar with, however I knew they'd fit into the categories of these target audiences. I conducted these interviews online using Zoom as it's convenient due to our distance and differences in time schedules, I ended up interviewing a total of 3 people, with my group as a whole interviewing 12 people in total.

Synthesizing User Data
After our individual interviews, we synthesized the data we have gained by using an user affinity diagram and identify common patterns, gaining insight from our different target audiences.

Task 2:
Creating User Personas and Journey Map
Based on our interviews, we were required to create 4 different user personas that matches our target audiences. We made our user personas based on 4 different scenarios:
1. Experienced pet owner (a parent with family)
2. Potential adopter (single young adult)
3. Animal shelter worker (any age range but has devotion to animal rights)
4. Retired senior citizen that wants to adopt a pet for some company
I was responsible on creating the first user persona (1. Experienced pet owner).

While I created the user persona, being an experienced pet owner, I focused on his main goal in being efficient communication process between animal shelters as to prevent any setbacks in time management as he would be busy with work, at the same time be able to find a pet that the shelter can be informational enough to make sure he adopts one that is able to get along with his daughter and existing dog.

Task 3:
Card Sorting
In this task, we started off by creating a card sort with further user research to ensure that the features are in the suitable categories for the lo-fi prototype.

Flow Chart
With the features and locations of them finalized based on the card sort survey, we moved onto creating a flow chart with all of them. From this process, we may envision the journey of a user using the app. We only created one flow chart since we wanted to focus on the users who may potentially adopt pets instead of the animal shelter, the main category would be included in the navigation bar.

Branding and Design Guideline
We eventually started on the design guideline, we created hand drawn rough sketches and illustration vectors of our brand, to which we wanted it to be a word play and a dog to give the users an understandable general idea of our adoption concept.
Figure 9.1 Sketches for logo
After receiving feedback, we figured out which logo to pick, which was the reversed 'R' as the dog's face in the wording 'fetchr'.
Moving to design guideline, we sat onto a colour palette before moving to icons and font, with the logo finalized in the end.
Lo-fi Wireframe and Prototype
In this section, me and my groupmates decided upon working one Lo-Fi wireframe in Figma. Although we were still creating each and our own individual wireframes, our prototypes were divided into different sections of the app we should focus on:
- Onboarding
- Home Page & Adoption Process
- Community, Help & Extras
- Profile Page
I chose to focus on the community and help section, where I completed the wireframe in a detailed manner while I kept the rest of the sections rather simple

FEEDBACK
Week 1
General Feedbacks
The product and idea should tackle a problem.
Specific Feedbacks
Focus on brainstorming and create a proposal as soon as you can to show next week during private consultations. With the amount of ideas right now, collectively decide on one that you guys want to do.
Week 2
Specific Feedbacks
consider: if the users would use the subscription feature, how much are they willing to pay for it monthly?
Determine the differences between free and premium, differences have to be significant but balanced. (Convince users to go premium, but also make the free ver enjoyable)
Consider having features related to consulting vets. (show location, price and rating).
Don't have too many features.
Consider having features related to consulting vets. (show location, price and rating).
Don't have too many features.
Week 3
Specific Feedbacks
Target audience should be specific, try to keep it as limited as possible. Each group should at least have 12 interviews in total, one member should interview at least 3 people. Make the questions related to the audience, you could possibly make different ones for each categories.
Week 4 & Week 5
Specific Feedbacks
Create 4 user personas, one person in each group. update me on the user personas and then move onto user journey maps. So far good progress.
Week 6
Specific Feedbacks
Good job on including all the rough sketches and illustrations on the logo. When you create the logo, don't focus too much on making the 'F' look like a dog, the idea is quiet generic. The logo with the reversed 'r' is preferrable.
REFLECTION
Experience
Jumping into Major Project is definitely some sort of risky dive, especially since now groups are compulsary. One thing I'm definitely glad is that I've gotten a good group with close friends. Not only was I able to develop another app idea, I was able to develop my communicative and cooperative skills with others. Though there were a lot of ups and downs, especially with how the module is managed where there were certain things unclear, it was overall an enjoyable learning experience where I was able to deepen my relationship with friends along the way.
Observations
I've observed how essential it is to constantly gain feedback and improving your product is as a cycle. Since we had supervisors, we had weekly consultations where we were able to ensure that the quality of our product stayed consistent or find ways to improve it. I found that there were times where we were stuck and doubtful about a certain area, to which thankfully we still managed our time well as we didn't get stuck onto a stage with the consultations. This is useful as a future UI/UX designer where the designer should be able to learn how to take constructive criticisms and feedbacks from real users in order to continue to optimize designs with the rapid growing technology.
Findings
Personally, I found that I don't dislike groupwork as much as I thought I would, it was the matter of having a group of people that is eager and motivated to create a good design. I know that in the future, working with others wouldn't always be smooth sailing, but I'm more open to the idea and I'm rather excited instead.
