REFLECTION

Experience

In my own experience, typography class can both be fun but also frustrating. The task I struggled with the most was the second one,  expressing myself in a wordmark might sound exciting at first but I had to keep it professional remember the potential clients I am trying to appeal towards. Not only that, time management is especially important as everything needs to be submitted on time. With feedbacks given every class there would always be something that can be improved.

Despite the struggles I had, this semester had a lot more freedom in what designs we want to create, which was fun as I get to express my creativity in a way and also observe my classmate's with how they express themselves through their designs. The tasks were pretty broad as long as it goes along with the instructions especially for the design based tasks, which I found more enjoyable than making the 8 typographic systems. The lecturer was also helpful as always, providing good constructive criticisms and what could be improved, it definitely helped me strive to be better.

Observations

What I have observed throughout this semester is how much time it would take to build a good brand. Building a brand alone would sure be easy but what makes it good is it being impressionable and being able to communicate what they are just from its design. From creating a logo to creating a social media page to reach your audiences, there are a lot of different steps that should be done to create a proper image. I, myself wasn't aware that branding was just creating a logo for a company or something but I was hit with having to have an eye-catching colour scheme while also being able to expand the design into different ones.

Findings

What I have found throughout this semester is how much preparations you should do before starting a design, With solid sketches and ideas, creating the design would be much more easier rather than winging it. I have found this with both task 2 and 3, wherein task 2 requires us to present ourselves through words and we had to create proposals for our ideas in the  3rd one on the other hand. To create a solid and good brand, we need to know what ideas or impressions we are trying to communicate with our clients VISUALLY. With the keywords and such, I was able to get a lot of ideas and different sketches that I can potentially use.
